L-Carnitine Information |
L-Carnitine
Carnitine is biosynthesised from the amino acids lysine and methionine in the body, or can be taken orally in the form of an L-Carnitine supplement.
Carnitine is required in order for fatty acids to be transported into the mitochondria (cells that burn fat for energy). Carnitine transports long-chain acyl groups from fatty acids into the mitochondria, so that they can be broken down to obtain usable energy via the citric acid cycle.
As carnitine provides benefits in energy metabolism and fatty acid metabolism L-Carnitine is a popular supplement for fat loss, fat burning and increased energy production.
L-Carnitine is not a stimulant product and does not stimulate the central nervous system in the same way as products like caffeine, however it does contribute to natural energy metabolism.
L-Carnitine Side Effects
L-Carnitine is a very safe supplement and overdose of L-Carnitine is very rare; extremely large doses may cause diarrhoea. Deficiencies are also rare but possible; symptoms include muscle fatigue and muscle cramps.
L-Carnitine Dosage
