Green Tea
Green tea is a very rich source of antioxidants, capable of slowing the oxidation of molecules and therefore lowering the risk of damage within cells (such a heart disease). Green tea contains some metabolism boosting compounds, although it has a smaller stimulatory effect than coffee. It contains two caffeine metabolites; theobromine and theophylline.
L-Theanine
Theanine is an amino acid found in green tea, it is related to glutamine and can enter the brain. Once there it has psychoactive properties; reducing stress levels (both physical and mental) and promotes relaxation. Theanine increases GABA, seratonin and dopamine levels.
Serving Sizes?
If taking a standardised green tea product always read the label. The product will contain the active ingredients in a higher concentration. There has been little research that suggests the optimal amount of green tea to drink.
Complimentary Products?
Many fat loss supplements include the standardised components of green tea due to their stimulatory effects, antioxidants and calming/stress reliving effects.
