Caffeine
Chemical Structure: C8H10N4O2
Caffeine is a xanthine alkaloid found in coffee, tea laves, guarana, yerba mate and other plants - it is probably the most widely used stimulant substance found in supplements. Caffeine anhydrous is the pure extracted compound and is bitter in taste.
Caffeine stimulates the central nervous system creating alertness and an increased metabolism. Caffeine also acts as a mild diuretic (rids the body of water). For a rough guide, a cup of coffee contains about 100mg of caffeine.
This well known substance can be taken by itself or in conjunction with other substances to increase energy levels and prevent fatigue both when dieting and before workouts to increase performance.
Serving Sizes?
Roughly 200mg per day can be taken without fear of side-effects (although different individuals will have different tolerances). Care should be taken as large doses of caffeine can have adverse effects such as headaches.
Complimentary Products?
Caffeine can be used with other substances in fat loss products such as Synephrine and other xanthines amongst many others. Pre-workout formulas such as BSN NO-Xplode and MuscleTech naNO Vapor also incorporate caffeine to boost performance.
