Protein supplements come from different forms such as milk, egg and soy. Whey protein is by far the most effective source, essential for muscle growth. Trained athletes need to consume roughly 0.5g to 1g per lb of bodyweight a day to actively recovery from intense exercise. Protein supplements offer a convenient and cheap alternative to eating vast amounts of meat and fish. A positive nitrogen balance is needed to keep the body in an anabolic state; therefore protein must be consumed every 3 hours. Protein supplements can be taken in a dry shaker to the gym or work and when added to water or milk will make regular protein consumption possible.
